Heat-pump icing up, not defrosting during Thanksgiving

When the Heating as well as Air Conditioning worker arrived she said it is normal for a heat pump to ice up

I cannot suppose how freezing this fall has been so far, then my friend and I have gained at least 3 inches of snow in a matter of two weeks being into fall; The snowfall was a wake up call to our state since a lot of the snow plows were not prepared, especially with the snowfall occurring right in the start of Fall… Due to the temperature as being much colder than normal, my home has not been able to adjust to the freezing rapidly changing temperatures as quick. My family is coming over for Thanksgiving supper tomorrow. There’s a lot of things that I needed to prepare as well as get ready for their arrival; Of course right when I was about to prep some meals I went to go turn on my heating system as well as my heating system was not turning on; I do have a heat pump which is one of the main sources of staying sizzling in my home. I went outside to check out my heat pump, when I went to it I saw that the entire device looked like it had snow on it. It was practically encased in ice as well as it did not seem normal. I decided to call my Heating as well as Air Conditioning worker instantly. When the Heating as well as Air Conditioning worker arrived she said it is normal for a heat pump to ice up. However she said that due to the amount of ice as well as the thickness of it, it was not normal. It turns out that the coils were clogged by the ice so there was no regular heat transport between the refrigerant as well as the outside air, and luckily she was able to repair the concern within in an hour so I could use my heating system again.
