Heat-pump icing up, not defrosting while in Thanksgiving

I decided to call my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman instantly

I cannot know how cold this fall has been so far, we have received at least 3 inches of snow in a matter of two weeks being into fall; The snowfall was a wake up call to our state since a lot of the snow plows were not prepared, especially with the snowfall occurring right in the beginning of Fall. Due to the temperature as being much colder than normal, my condo has not been able to adjust to the cold hot & cold temperatures as quick, my family is coming over for Thanksgiving breakfast tomorrow. There’s a lot of things that I needed to prepare & get ready for their arrival, then of course right when I was about to prep some meals I went to go turn on my heating system & my heating system was not turning on, but i do have a heat pump which is one of the main sources of staying moderate in my home. I went outside to check out my heat pump. When I went to it I saw that the entire unit looked like it had snow on it. It was practically encased in ice & it did not seem normal. I decided to call my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman instantly. When the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman arrived he said it is normal for a heat pump to ice up, but however he said that due to the amount of ice & the thickness of it, it was not normal. It turns out that the coils were congested by the ice so there was no respected heat move between the refrigerant & the outside air, then luckily he was able to service the concern within in an hour so I could use my heating system again.
