When the thermostat (emergency heat light) is flashing

My HVAC technician told me that when the light is flashing on and off it does mean that the system is locked out, this tells me that the outdoor condenser unit has shut off and has sent a signal to the thermostat to let me know that there is certainly a problem

Sometimes when I get off of work I just like to sit on the couch for hours and watch my favorite TV shows. Sometimes I will fall asleep to those TV shows because I am so exhausted from a very long work day. The other night I fell asleep on the couch and woke up and saw the thermostat that is installed right near my TV to be flashing on and off. There is an emergency heat light button and if it flashes on and off that means there’s something wrong with it. I was told that when this light is flashing on and off, It indicates that the outdoor unit is locked out. Since I do not know how to resolve this issue I contacted my HVAC technician. My HVAC technician told me that when the light is flashing on and off it does mean that the system is locked out, this tells me that the outdoor condenser unit has shut off and has sent a signal to the thermostat to let me know that there is certainly a problem. My technician also told me that it was smart that I gave him a call and that it was going to be an easy fix. I checked the breaker and the breaker seemed to be fine, all he had to do was reset the thermostat and the HVAC system for it to function properly again. It was a good thing that I called him as we were expecting a big winter storm, in which I would need heat for my home.
