I’m no marriage expert, let me say that right off the bat.
- I’m definitely not a couples therapist or anything like that.
But I can tell you that I’ve been married for 40 years and I’ve never worried once about a divorce. I think there are a few simple keys to our success as a couple. First of all, we have great communication and always compromise on everything. Secondly, we take time alone and enjoy who we are as individuals. Lastly, we had our HVAC system upgraded to include zone controlled heating and cooling at least 20 years ago. I think that this temperature control upgrade has been a major part of our continued happiness together. In the beginning we fought often over the indoor air temperature and air quality. Whenever the energy bill came in the mail we were destined to have a big fight over the astronomical expense. There was no doubt we’d be fighting over thermostat settings and sleeping in different beds for the next week. As such, we decided it was time to stop having so many thermostat adjustments take place. Instead of moving the air temperature settings up and down to compensate for our different air quality preferences, we set up unique zones of comfort. After a month, our energy bill was lower than ever. Our unique air quality preferences were easy to manage and we never had to tamper with the thermostat again. We stopped fighting so often, our energy bill was feasible, and our HVAC system was better than ever. I’m pretty sure this HVAC upgrade at least partially saved our marriage.
